Thinkpad 390E - No Mouse Found

#1 Post by CDobyns » Mon Jul 03, 2006 1:01 pm

Have a long-time reliable Thinkpad 390E, and recently rebooted it and got the O/S message after Windows loaded that no mouse was found by the system.

Have not had any problems and even replaced the entire keyboard a couple of years ago - so suspect it's not the trackpoint mouse. Tried to get the system to recognize an external PS/2 mouse (which it has recognized and responded to in the past), but no luck in getting the O/S to sense the mouse device.

Thinking that some inadvertent hardware configuration setting problem might have occurred, I used my Go Back to go back to a time interval where the system trackpoint mouse was working - but no luck. Is this some sort of sudden system/hardware failure? It seems strange that neither the trackpoint or external mouse is being recognized though. Any suggestions?

Still looking for any recommendations on the mysteriously disappearing mouse message.

Took the step of pulling the keyboard and checking the ribbon connectors. As far as I can tell those are all solid. And again, the keyboard itself is really only 3-4 years old, since it was last replaced..

Will entertain any suggested directions. Thanks.
