I recently bought a 600E off eBay... I'm not a pro or anything, but I was able to put in a bigger hard drive and some memory from a dead T20 - worked perfectly, no problems.

Last night, though, the trackpoint became possessed or something... I can use a mouse fine, but I just have no control over the trackpoint. Not really sure what to do, hoping there's a simple fix for it.

Turn it off, on reboot hold F1.
When you get to the bios screen, click Config.
Then press Ctrl-D, First column, Third Row.
Change 02 to 01 and press F2 and then F3...

LAst week same thing happen to my 600x i end up buying a keyboard off ebay because some days after the mouse start moving i started with a start up problem receiving some errors that made me unable to start windows.

So suggestion follow mr-b instructions and order one keyboard, so you will be covered if things get worst.

I sometimes will see this problem with a number of thinkpads I have used in the past. The center of balance that the track point uses in just out of wack. Pick the thinkpad up and tilt it around untill it stops.

TrackPoint drift is something IBM put in on purpose. If you rest your finger on the TrackPoint, it'll automatically detect that and compensate by moving mouse in opposite direction. Unfortunatley, some of the more used and/or abused computers or one with the cap on awkward (yes it is possible to put the cap on wrong) will have this drift without user initiating it.

If you just keep your finger off the TrackPoint for several seconds it should stop and no tilting should be necessary.

My 600E sometimes does this and it's very annoying. Just leave it on it's own for a few seconds and I find that usually stops it.

Thank you stargate! I have a 600e that I thought would need a
keyboard because the cursor drifted to the top of the screen
and stayed there. Tilting the computer forward cured it.
How did you discover that treatment? Does the problem recur,
in your experience?

Well i made it to the 600X club now.
Had a deal offered to me that i could now pass up.
A 600X-P-III 450 and a 600E that needs a screen.Got both for a great deal.
But now the 600X has the mouse problem. It sometimes wonders up to the top right hand corner.With no finger on the red cap.Does it even with the red cap off.
It lasts for about 10 or 15 sec's than i can use it again.
I did the serch about this problem and came across this post.
Anyone know how to fix this problem?

Oh ya i now know why every one here says the 600's keyboard is the best there is.Man this thing is nice to type on.
I have used alot of diffrent thinkpads and this is the best keyboard.
BUT my 390X is very close to it.

@SaberX: The only two ways to fix it, are as follows:

1. Use the BIOS editing listed in post #2 above.
2. Replace the keyboard. The keyboard from the 600E will work on the 600X.

Well i disabled it in the thinkpad configuration. used it with a usb mouse for a while.
Than needed the usb port for something else.So i turned it back on and it never moved on its own for a while now.I know just turning it off than back on wont fix it but so far so good.
I dont realy need this 600X so it's going for sale.
