ThinkPad 570 Upgrade CPU possible?

#1 Post by harald612 » Tue Jul 11, 2006 4:41 am

Hello,

my ThinkPad 570 has a CPU 300 MHz. Is it possible to upgrade like a ThinkPad 600E (MMC-2 socket) ?

Best regards

Harald

nope- its soldered to the motherboard.

always search for things like this. as a matter of fact, a few weeks ago i bumped an old thread stating that you cannot upgrade the 570 cpu.

its a bit disappointing isnt it?

it was 192, but i have mine at 320mb. just add a 256mb card. if it doesnt work, update the bios- but mine has an older bios and it worked.

make sure the memory has 8 black chips on each side. if it has 4 on each side, its not low density and wont work.

i think im going to try xp on this not-so-bad-boy. i put xp pro on my 600e and it runs much better than w2k, with 350mb ram.

That are good news!
So I need: SDRAM 144-pin PC100 with 16 chips
Is this the same RAM as for 600E ?

yea they take the same memory. my knowledge with all types of memory is limited- i do not know if there would be a difference in how many chips pc100 memory would have vs pc133. i believe they would be the same though.

i used pc133- doesnt make a difference though. i actually mistakenly ordered chips pictured with only 8 chips, but i received one with 16- the luck on that sale!! then i purchased another, and that time they sent the correct one from the picture, but it wasnt the right one for these machines. if its got 8 chips, then its more suited for a t23.

edit: if you really want to upgrade, why not replace the motherboard with a 366mhz one?...or move up to a 570e p3 500mhz.

OK, maybe I switch to 570E ?! I like this small machine.
Only the battery is very expensive (compared with 600E) !
