TP701: Undo "reinstate hibernate memory checksum"

Here's a question for TP701 enthusiasts. The BIOS update information sheet for the final 701 BIOS lists this item:

Eliminated hibernate memory checksum. It can be reinstated if
necessary through special key sequence Fn+Left Arrow followed
quickly by Fn+Enter. This allows for quicker hibernation.
If power management is turned off through APM interface, the
CPU will not automatically be clocked down on battery power.

My problem is that I used that keystroke combination when experimenting, and now my hibernation is much slower. I can't find any way to undo the change - and I can't reinstall the BIOS because I have the 133MHz CPU upgrade, and the BIOS can't be installed after the upgrade is performed.

Is there any solution to this?

Have you tried initializing the BIOS, which resets everything to their defaults? To do that, hold down both mouse buttons and do a cold boot.

I *think* that worked!!! I was too impatient to time the hibernation in the machine's earlier state, and I hadn't used the machine for a very long time because of the delay, but it now seems to need only about ten seconds between pressing Fn+F12 and the appearance of the animation where the disk fills with data. This is a machine with 40MB of RAM. Does that delay sound about right for a 133MHz machine? I seem to remember that it used to take a lot longer after I used that keystroke, but I can't be certain.

If this fixed it (and I think it did), I'm *VERY* grateful - thanks again.

That sounds about right - I've got a 133Mhz board in mine as well (though 64MB RAM) and it does the same.

Thanks again for that. I bought one of those 64MB chips when they showed up a while back, but I seem to remember a problem with color depth (16-colors under NT or something like that?). I've got the 40MB running with Windows 98Lite (and the Windows 98SE "Unofficial Service Pack"). What do you have as the OS on your machine?

Windows 95, revision B, iirc, with Office 95 installed as well. I've heard good things about 98Lite but I don't use the system enough to bother installing a new OS.

Thanks for that - I might revert to Win95, as 98 seems a bit slow on that machine, even with 133MHz. I forgot that I had put System Commander on there, with three partitions, so there's actually room to try out Win95B without losing 98.

I'm running 98Lite on my 133MHz 701C as well Ed and I wouldn't bother rolling back to W95B, IMHO it would be slower.
