I just started toying with a 600e (2645-5JU) i got off of ebay. I does not recognize the ac power adapter, the orange light does not blink at insert. And it will not power on. The batteries work fine. It will power up and off i go.

I tried to use the docking station to eliminate the ac recepticle, but I still do not get a blinking orange light.

Does anyone have any suggestions or do I settle???

I'm sure it is not the ac adapter. The adapter charges and powers my other 600e (56 watt). The ac adapter from my R40 (72 watt)does nothing either.

In that case you will need to open the machine and with a meter check the voltage at the pins at the motherboard maybe your problem lies at the DC connector.

I have checked with meter and i do get voltage through out the board. So i think i have eliminated the dc connector, as when i use the docking station i still get no power.

Any other suggestions??

Can any one get battery maximiser to work on 600e machines? or similiar utility that shows battery cycles?

Not sure what you mean by this... Are you saying you pulled the motherboard out, connected the AC adapter and then found power at several different points on the motherboard? What voltages were you reading on the meter? Was all other power sources removed (including the CMOS battery)? Did you try to turn the power on by sliding the power switch at any time?

I'd say if the eBay seller did not reveal this fault, or implied that it was a fully functional laptop, then you should be able to get your money back. If you are stuck with it, then some time needs to be spent tracing the input power circuit to see if you can identify the part(s) which is(are) causing the problem. Could be as simple as a blown fuse or a loose connection. May also be a visibly damaged part like a leaking capacitor or burnt component. Without schematics, it's really a guessing game at this point. Typically what happens after the 16VDC enters into the laptop via the power connector is that it will go to several voltage regulators (3.3V, 5V, 12V are some normal values). If you are sure that all other voltage sources have been disconnected, except for the AC adapter, and you are reading these types of voltages, then I'd say your power connector is okay, along with most of your power circuitry. I would also say that you will see these voltages only when you turn the power switch on. But again, that's just my guess without seeing any kind of documentation on the circuit.

Battery Maximiser works on a 600E, but doesn't provide the additional information that the newer Thinkpads have (ie. cycle count, battery condition, etc.)

It sort of works in the background, but it does make a difference.

I just kept one end (+) of the volt meter at the dc connection and touched various parts of the mb with the other (-). I know this is risky but i had to test.



I know i was taking my chances on ebay.... No big deal, i got it working with xp pro. I have an external charger and 2 other 600e that i can use to charge.

As far as the battery maximiser, I thought it would work with the bios update that I can't do. (Because of ac adapter)
