600E CPU upgrade options

#1 Post by tazmaniac » Sat Jul 22, 2006 2:11 am

Hi all

I have just bought a 600E with a 366 CPU and I am wondering what my optiona are for upgrading the CPU.

1. What is the max CPU speed it can handle
2. Can the machine take P3's as well as P2's
3. How easy is it to change CPU? Is there a slot on the m/nboard that you just plug the new CPU into.
4. Does a faster CPU need better cooling?

Taz

First, I would recommend reading through the Hardware Maintenance Manual. It will show you exactly how to remove/replace each and every component within your 600E.

Second, before anyone can tell you what the fastest processor your 600E (usually 750-850mhz) can handle, we will need to know what your full model/type number is. (ie. 2645-4BU). This information is located on the bottom of your 600E.

Third, you might want to read through the how to upgrade sticky at the topic of the 600/770/570 conference.

DEFINETALY WORDS OF WIZDOM
as an precaution ,remove main battery too, make certain pins on the new cpu are straight as ,otherwise you may damge your mobo if its overlooked.
alot of ebay traders send cpus with bent pins, torn off resistors etc
inspect cpu with a good magnify glass first
adding thermal compound helps too.
