600e CD/RW or DVD/RW

#1 Post by b1ackb1rd » Mon Jul 24, 2006 3:56 pm

Can someone give me a part number or a link where I can get a R/W driver for my 600e (2645-550) please. I've seen loads on Fleabay but I'm not sure which one will fit, and which drivers I'll need.

I have a DVD fitted which is no use to me, 98SE keeps losing my 512Mb USB flash memory drivers so I could really do with the ability to burn stuff onto CD.

Muchos grassyarse.

If its toshiba brand or other make sure the firmware
Supports C.S.E.L. for tp 600/600e/600x
No need to pay expensive lenovo pricetag
Ask the seller for a drive that will default to secondary master on tp 600sereis.
Or shows C.S.E.L.
Compatable
Some drives that are ok are
Cdrw/dvd combo*all toshiba(csel only)
*QUANTA SBW 242
*LITEON LSC-24081M
*M a t s u s h i t a UJDA720(except ver 1.00fw)
Dvd/rw
*all toshiba (csel only)
*NEC 5100,5500,6100,6500 (dell compatable ok)
*PANASONIC UJ-811B
All others that incorporate C.S.E.L. default settings will be ok.
Just remove 6 screws , swap over caddy, mod up cdrom bezel to fit (if need be hot melt solder usually does the trick, once lined up).
Enjoy the laptop speced up to todays standards
That won't fall apart, instead of current model
Self destruct rubbish we see from dell and many others.

There are complete drives available for sale on eBay that are shipped with the appropriate caddy so all you have to do is stick it in your 600/E/X.

There are also bare drives sold on eBay specifically for the 600/E/X series. The sellers usually offer to send instructions on how to pull your current drive out of its caddy and replace it with the new bare drive.

You can also try to find a bare drive on your own. For more information about this, you might want to consult the following thread, especially if you currently have a Toshiba-branded DVD drive and you would like to continue to use your current "front bezel":

At the risk of creating more competition for used, combo drives (CDRW/DVD) on eBay, here is what I am currently using in my stable of 600Xs:

Samsung SN-324
HLDS GCC-4240N

The Samsung was originally installed in my 400Mhz 600E. Worked fine with Easy CD Creator burning disks and played DVDs without any problems that I could see. Note that some of the drives were originally designed for the Ultrabay 2000 and I simply swapped the drive caddy for the 600X's Ultraslim Bay or was a bare drive so I had to replace the front panel as well.
