i bought a new low density 256MB pc100 ram for my thinkpad 600E model 2645-5JU, when i turn it on, all the memory installed appears, but it's unable to boot, it makes a sound and does not boot............any ideas?
I tried a 128 mb pc66 ram, which was previously working, it's also unable to boot....
i tried a toshiba pc100 ram 128mb, it boots but only recognizing 93MB (out of 32 on board and the 128)............

Any ideas will be helpful, maybe if i disable the onboard 32mb ram it will be able to boot with the 256MB?

How do we disable the onboard ram?

Any input is highly appreciated.

Have you tried booting with only the built-in memory? There is a way to disable the internal memory via an edit in the BIOS. Try searching the archives using the following terms and limit the search to the 770,600/570 forum:

disable memory hex edit

At the moment the search function seems to be down.

This will save you time searching...

To disable onboard 32MB memory:

F1 to enter BIOS.
Select Config.
Press Ctrl-D to open BIOS editor.

Byte 2B

Default is 80

Change to 81 to disable onboard 32MB memory.

I tried this myself on my 600E 2645-4BG and it definately works.

Thanks for that! The search function still appears to be having some issues.... I just tried again and I keep getting the SQL errors.
