I have a 128mb module marked 128MB Synch 100mhz CL2. The BIOS sees the memory but it is not marked as usable. Is this the wrong module or pehaps its faulty? The memory has number mt8lsdt1664hg-10eb1
TIA

I don't see why it wouldn't work, unless the stick is bad. It is Dell branded memory, but that shouldn't make any difference.

I believe that module should work (PC100 CL2). Have you tried it in both memory slots just by itself (i.e. no other modules installed at the same time) and do you still see the same problem? Do you have any other modules that do work? If "yes" to both of my questions, then I'd vote for a bad module. It may be possible to test the module using PC Doctor or memtest86+. Both diagnostics can be downloaded and installed on a floppy disk. Booting from that floppy then starts the diagnostic program. You can find PC Doctor for the 600X at:

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... IGR-495KW2

Memtest86+ can be had at the following link:

http://www.memtest.org/

If you need any further help with these programs, just holler.

As ever I appreciate the responses. I'll run memtest on it but suspect it must be a bad stick ....

Ran PC Doctor; Memory testing didnt show any problems but then diags didnt show the additional memory either. Same result in both slots. Believe it must be the Sodimm; I have some on order FRU20L0265 so will have to wait until they arrive to see ......
