770e On/Off and Charging Problem

I'm not sure what happened, but my 770e now turns off when the screen/top/lid is moved forward a little past 85 degrees vertical. When it is in this position (or closed) the three lights are off and it will not charge. This all happens well before the point when the lid closed/hibernation switch should be involved.

Any ideas before I open it up to take a look?
