Transferring Audio

I've got some old audio cassettes that I want to convert to mp3 files.
I've never done this before, so I want to verify that I am making the correct hardware connections:
As I understand it, I would connect a 3.5" audio jack from the output of my cassette player to the Stereo in-line jack?
As a hardware engineer, I would typically look at the chip used to buffer the line input, but IBM doesn't provide that low-level schematic.
Has anyone else done with with a 600X? Are there any hardware precautions I should take?
