Hey,
I'm having a problem here. I bought a 400MHz MMC-1 chip off ebay. It was guaranteed to work (i know this doesn;t mean much on ebay, but i'm going with that assumption for now). The part number on the chip is PMH4000100AA. When I plugged it in and booted up the laptop, the screen comes up fine, it shows the IBM and Thinkpad logos fine and shows the amount of ram installed, but it never posts. I never get a beep and it just sits at that state and does nothing. Is there something I have to do to get this to work? Or did I even get the right chip? From what I hear there's only like one 400MHz chip that will work in these Thinkpad 600's.By the way, It's a 2645-45U. Any suggestions?

You probably have a Celeron chip which is incompatible with the 600 series. The 1 towards the end of the product number would be a 2 if you had a Pentium II.

That's a 400MHz Celeron, not a PII.

Get your money back.

No, the "H" in PMH is the giveaway that it's a Celeron, see the link above.

Is the Celeron processor really not supported in the TP 600? I ask, because in a TP 600E, the Celeron works well.

400mhz Celeron(MMC-1) does NOT work in a TP 600...

Another thing would be why use a celeron when there are plenty of pentium III available.

Pentium III was never made in MMC-1 format so Pentium IIs are the only option for a ThinkPad 600.

So max. CPU upgrade is PII 400MHz MMC-1. Thank you!

Yes,but good luck finding one... You might have better luck finding a P2 366 Mhz MMC-1 CPU.. I doubt if there's much diff between a 366 and a 400 Mhz CPU..

I found one 400MHz CPU, but extremely expensive (75 Euro). So I will buy a 366MHz CPU.

That's a good price (shoot, where'd he come up with seven at once?) - I paid about ten bucks more a week or two ago (that reminds me, I need to feedback that guy).

Whether it's worth it or not is more subjective. If you're currently running below 300MHz, I'd say it probably is.

For someone with a 300, It's hard to say. I did a 300-400 swap last weekend, since I plan to put XP on my old 600. XP didn't run too bad, but I thought the extra cpu power would make it just a hair better.

i can confirm the 400 mmc1 celeron is a no go on the 600
(did exactly the same thing)
going from a 300 to 366 p11 worked out feasably well for me.
