Hi group,
I am a new user of these units and could use previous owner's advice and knowledge.
General:
A) Are the 380ed and the 385cd parts interchangeable (proc, mem, CD, ectra.)
B) When I bought the 380ed it came with an unknown condition Seagate 20 Gb 2.5 drive, can this unit be installed in either of these laptops?

BTW, I have located a fleamarket PC dealer who has several Docking Stations for these and some other IBM's

The 385cd operates, but has keyboard problems. The on/off switch works with difficulty and I suspect a beverage spill.
a) How do you take it apart?
b) Is there a service manual anywhere online?
c) Has anyone successfully cleaned or repaired these keyboards?
d) Are there any BIOS updates worth installing?
e) The clock will not stay set either

?? any suggestions ??

My 380ed (81,536 Mb) works perfectly, but requires 3.5 minutes to boot W98.
1) Is it possible to change the processor (166mHz presently)?
3) Are there BIOS updates for this model?

Thank you all for reading.

The only difference between the 385ED and 385CD are hard drive and software configurations. All parts are interchangable. Th CPUs are permanent. The 385CD is 150mhz. Windows 98 is probably taking so long to boot due to either alot of bloated software and/or bad or imporperly configured or conflicting drivers and/or a bloadted registry.

For maintenance or operation questions regarding the actual hardware, consult the FAQ on the forum.

Thank you for info.

Through some effort I was able to track into Lenovo and find this base site. Use the full model number or a browse rather than "Quick Path".
With patience I found BIOS updates, for my 600, 385, and 380 as well as a 26meg driver update file.

Much is available for newer hard drives also.
