Have you checked the USB port to make sure the pins are OK?

oh and MB question

#32 Post by fr0zenmon » Thu Nov 16, 2006 8:40 pm

ok so i have the 600e 2645-55u model.
What is the max ram i can install?
1 slot occupies a 128mb card. Can I add a 256mb card? thereby boosting to 128+256. Or can I add 2x256 cards on this model to get 512 total.

600e
128+128 = 256 (i believe this is the answer, can someone confirm it)
256+128 = 384
256+256 = 512 (my ideal, is there a way to do this? Easily?)
or can i go higher ( here's hoping)

Next is this compatible with this model:

128MB sdram PC66 144pin 66Mhz 8chip 16x8 1 inch tall laptop sodimm memory.
TP 600E 2645-55u PII/300mhz/128MB/ 6gb.
TP T20 PIII 700mhz/364mb/12gb

inside the usb port is a single pick that doesnt have any damage. It is in the center and is blackish/blue and below it are 4 columns with a golden metal spaced out. Outside the port is two screws that are on each side of a metal panel securing the port in the middle.

This is a hand me down so i dont know what work has been done on it.

since i have 128mb

what kind of linux distro would you recommend for a beginner to install to get a feel for the OS. I wanted to install ubuntu, but i will wait until after i get the memory. Once i figure out which one it is that will work.

All sounds fine (if contacts are nice and even and not bent) although I don't know if those two screws should be there or not - someone with a 600E can advise? Check the pins on the device you're plugging in as well (or test it on another PC). If all's well, and the device drivers are loaded, as Ray says, it's a hardware issue.
Cheers
