I recently purchased a Transnote, a beautiful machine, but installing the software is difficult. I ordered the original IBM system restore disk, however the Transnote has no CD or Floppy, you have to us USB drives. My problem is I have an Iomega USB 2.0 CD-RW, the machine will not install the restore disk. However it will install Win XP, strange hu? Anyway, can anyone advise me on how to get my original software back on the machine, without buying a IBM USB 2.0 CDROM. Thankyou Jack

I purchased a brand new Portable Drive Bay 2000 and an Ultrabay 2000 DVD for my TransNote. http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... IGR-4JSSC8 Portable Bay 2000 has both USB and PCMCIA connectivity. I installed the Recovery CD using the PCMCIA. The first, regular Portable Bay has only PCMCIA connectivity. You can find some of these on Ebay http://search.ebay.com/portable-bay_All ... QQfromZR10

Make sure that the latest BIOS is upgraded http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... IGR-4R3UYK This update resolves many booting issues with USB connectivity. Also, don’t forget that only the first IBM recovery CD is bootable. Set the CD as the first bootable device in the BIOS. But, if you could boot the Windows XP CD then you should also be able to boot the IBM Recovery CD. By the way XP works flawlessly on Transnote. I used to had the original Win 2k on it, but I replaced it with XP Pro. Just make sure that you upgrade the memory to the maximum 320Mb. Here are some more info on how to install XP on TransNote. http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... idate=true You can also visit the yahoo TransNote forum www.transnote.com, and do a search on bootable devices and Windows install. A last advice: If you decide to install XP, the Ink Manager software is not downloadable at IBM, but thanks to Anthony Wang at TransNote.us you can get it.
