hi,

I have a TP600e and I cant get sound. I went through all the audio checks listed on lunovo and when I ran the test for dsp in the setup(F1) it didnt pass. what does that mean. also where it says audio in the test screen its grayed out like I dont have it. any help is much appreciated.

Did you check the wire that connects the speaker on the palm rest to the mother board? It could be dis connected. You'll have to open your tp to find out. Carefully unscrew all the screw with arrows pointing to them and the keyboard should pop open. Seriously, don't pull on the thing, gently lift it. There should be two cables that connect the keyboard to the motherboard, one is a green one which is the keyboard connector, the other is a yellow/orange one which is the speaker.

Also, you can disconnect those wires if you want. Make sure you dis connect from the white part of it. I acidently pulled it by the wire and the wire snapped from the connector. I have to buy a new keyboard now.

Since when this is happening? Did you have to open your lappy for anything?

I tried that today and it was connected fine. I even disconnected it and reconnected it.

cmarti,

I bought this used. guy said it had sound but I cant take his word for it.

In any case I removed the hard drive and dvd and floppy and booted to the tests and it still looks like I dont have audio. plus the same error when I test dsp.

.....

I just looked up the error codes in the techincal manual and it says that it means that either the modem card or the system board (in that order) and that I should try replacing the fru. I'm not sure what that means. what's and FRU? How do I replace it?

thanks for the replies

It occurs to me that this may have nothing to do with my sound issue. any ideas on why It would appear that I dont have sound on the test menu.

I should add that I get all the beeps from the speakers and such, so I know they work and if I plug in the headphones, I get the beeps there too. Are these sound generated somewhere other than the sound from inside windows, like the bios maybe. If not and they are generated by the sound card, why wouldnt it work within windows or linux?
