I bought a code scanner for my 2001 f-250. It plugs into the obd-II connecter under the dash. When I click on the software 90% of the time the computer freezes before the software loads and I have to do a hard shutdown. The scanner connects to the USB port, I've searched for drivers on this site and I'm not having any luck. The scanner is AUTOENGINUITY.COM they say it's a computer issue and to try an update the USB drivers. HELP needed. Any Ideas? Where's drivers? IT's a 600E 2645-5JU

what site ?

drivers are that small software "bit" that interfaces between the scanner's USB and the thinkpads USB..

it all depends on which OS you are running..
IF windows XP then it has built in drivers..
if win2000, i'm not sure but you should take a look at the ibm/lenovo support site for a USB driver for the 600E and the particular OS that you are running..

that 600# probably came with Win98..
no inbuilt USB support..
it need a driver..
and if the OS has been corrupted from the original preload, THAT may be where you problem lies..

I'm running Win98se. Why does 600E come with USB port if not supported?
I searched this site for others with USB problems and none were found.
I have XP pro stand alone version from my desktop will this work, with no problems?

Yes it will work but suggestion, increase the ram you have to at least 256mb so the xp can work easy.

But you will nedd another license for the 600E it is ilegal to use the OS in two different systems. :)

Not more money!!!!

I put together a T23 for a Ford Tech that was trying to connect, just as you are. The issues that you are running into are the lack of a USB 2.0. Your USB ports are 1.1.

There is no need to add XP or more ram. Your best bet is to add a PCMCIA USB 2.0 card, so that you can connect at the 2.0 speeds that the ODB software requires.

Thanks

That's the info. I needed. :D A nice easy cheap fix. Will this PCMCIA USB 2.0 card just plug and play? If so i'm on my way to ebay for the card, unless someone has a driver that works

Most will come with a CD, or atleast if you stick with a name brand, you can download the drivers from that Manufacturer's website.
