I have been working on a 600x 26454eu and have a couple of questions:

Does the X require I higher amperage battery and charger?

Windows XP reports it is running at 647Mhz so I am assuming it is a 700Mhz model and not the 800, like stated when i bought it

I found some ibm documentation stating that the battery for this model has slightly higher Mamps than the 600/e and a charger from a 600e [16V 3.36A] will start the bios ok but not boot the OS. It runs fine with the charger from my t30 [16V 4.5A]. I also tried a battery from a 600e and it also will not boot the os but runs the bios.

Thanks for any answers.

The 600X uses the same PSU as the 600/E.

As for the cpu, it is the Speed Step that is causing it to read 150MHz under the 800MHz.

Well it's not reading 800 ever, not plugged in, not with power set to wide open.

According to IBM's specbook (twbook.pdf) the 4EU is a first-gen 600X with a 500mhz CPU and no SpeedStep support so your issue lies there. Unless you physically modify the resistor placement on the CPU board, a SpeedStep CPU will always run 150mhz slower on a non-SpeedStep system.

As for numbers, MobileMeter frequently reports 666mhz on my 800mhz T21 when running off of battery or idleing.

...that's why i selected it to round off to a less evil number! i couldn't stand seeing 666 all day long.
