Error code 00161 and 00163 - HELP WANTED

Hello,

Can anybody help me? I can not turn on my thinkpad 600x. What does ERROR 00161 and ERROR 00163 mean??? How can i solve this problem? I have IMPORTANT stuf of my laptop that i need... Thanx...

Uh, just a guess, but I'd say you probably have a CMOS battery that has reached the end of its life. Download the Hardware Maintenance Manual for the 600X here:

Also, having those errors does not prevent you from using the system. Simply set the date and time in the BIOS (Easy Setup) and restart (but don't power off) the laptop. If you can't access the BIOS then you may have a power-on password (POP) or a supervisor (BIOS) password. You will need to supply those in order to clear the 161/163 errors.

Got a new cmos bat; however, the problem is still not solved... does anybody know what it else could be???

Was it a new or used CMOS battery?

Did you set the date and time? If you do, you have to let it sit for a bit before you can shut it off and then back on.

Is there a password for the BIOS?
