Sulking 600

I was using a THinkpad 600 under Windows ME with a dwl 650+ (dlink wireless card). reliably for quite some time.
I upgraded to a 600E (since upgraded again with a PIII) and transferred the 650+ to it.
I purchased a couple of dwl 650 and they were working.
I went back to the 600 and no cannot get any form of networking to work...
I have tried the 650+ the 650 a USR USB G adapter. A Xircom 33.6 (hard wire) and even a Xircom Pocket (parallel port adapter) I have tried differing cables and have checked to see if the cables are ok.
I have re installed the OS. I have deleted and re installed drivers I have deleted registry keys for TCP/ip. The card is indicated as working (control Panel) However TCPip sys does not seem to be loaded.
ANy suggestions .. Or is the 600 having a fit of Pique because I now use the 600E more. (I was going to use the 600 as my really mobile unit - the type I could consign to baggage handlers at airports etc.)
