Boot-up question on 600E

Sorry for such a lame question, but I am running 98SE and I've been having a little trouble accessing the start-up menu during boot-up. I want to do a step by step boot to track down why my boot is close to 2 minutes total.
What keys do you press and when during the boot process?

I think it's F8.

To access the start up menu you will need to press F1 and keep it pressed then press the power on buttom. There you are into the easy setup then sellet boot options or something called like that.
And there you go!

Sorry folks, but neither of those two suggestions are working. Anyone else?

I think you can get some of this info by using msconfig [Start -> Run -> msconfig] and choosing various Startup options -- maybe there are some choices under Diagnostic Startup or something?

Also, I think you can insert a command into your Autoexec.bat file to get some info, but if I recall correctly, this [echo?] command does not really provide any info after you start to load windows -- it only applies to the pre-Windows drivers.

Using Yahoo! to search...

"windows 98 boot step config.sys autoexec.bat"

This link was the first hit. I believe that this is what you are looking for. Basically, hit the F8 key after all of the BIOS screens and just before Windows starts loading. You will get a menu where you can select a step-by-step confirmation. I have verified this with my old Gateway running Win98.

Yeah, that's what I wrote earlier. F8 is what one uses for step-by-step since MS DOS.

I'm sure F8 is what you're looking for, but on my later thinkpads on which I ran '98, the F8 function was VERY fussy. You need to hit it right at the instant you see the Thinkpad logo generated by the bios process. It may take more than one try

Thanks for the help. You are correct, F8 does the job, provided the interrupt keys are working during boot - mine were not. One of the tweaks I did some time ago and forgot about. Dumb. Is there a log that records such changes automatically?
