Another BIOS?

Older ThinkPads.. from the 600, the 7xx, the iSeries, 300, 500, the Transnote and, of course, the 701

Another BIOS?

#1 Post by nitro2k01 » Tue Oct 03, 2006 6:25 pm

Is there another "real" BIOS behind that annoying "simple as possible" IBM BIOS?
TP 600E:: Type: 2645 (Defunct. Description left for posterity.)
CPU: 650*1.08=702 MHz PIII with SpeedStep disabled. (Used to be 400 MHz PII)
RAM: 288 MB
HDD: 80 GB non-IBM
_________
TP T60:: Type: 2008-CTO
CPU: Core Duo T2400 1.83 GHz
RAM: 3 GB
HDD: WD Scorpio Black 320GB 7200 RPM

Sort of. There is hex coding that you can get into, but modifications are risky. There is no clear cut way of getting around with the hex editor.

And for the record, I don't find the IBM Ex-Setup to be annoying...it is meant to be simple.

You mean that the TP BIOS has a builtin hex editor, or are you talking about using some BIOS tool like 11a !BIOS?

Yes, built into the EZ-Setup. On one of the pages, you press CTRL+D (I think) to get into it. You can read about how to get into it in the 600 Upgrade sticky at the top of this conference.
