Choppy Video

I finally got my 600e working but the Video is choppy. It would play but it'd freeze, then jump scenes. I updated the video driver and it still is the same. Anyone have an input?

What's the processor speed?

What software are you using to view the DVD?

What's the source drive's model # and how is it connected to the laptop (Ultrabay, PCMCIA, USB)?

All of those are critical to determine where the speed bottleneck is.

Did you enable DMA for the DVD drive? Also, try a lower display resolution, such as 800x600. Finally, how much RAM do you have? Add more if you only have 128MB or less.

Well, the video is actually on my computer. I'm using Media Player Classic.

I don't have any RAM actually, the guy I gave my laptop too gave it back without any and is saying I never gave it to him with RAM in the first place. He's a school mate so I'm not going to get jumpy about it.

RAM is probably my problem. I don't know why I overlooked it in the first place. Thanks again guys.

When I still had a 600E, I had best DVD performance when there was at least 128mb RAM installed (256 recommended) and screen set to 16-bit color (as opposed to 24-bit which really drains the chipset). It also helps to try tweaking the output settings in Media Player Classic if you feel safe working with the controls.

Yes, AlphaKilo470 is right. The difference between 16-bit and 24-bit makes a world of difference in video.

Whether I play DVDs or not, I always set all of my computers' color levels to 16-bit.

Changing the resolution made the difference. The Video is fine now, thanks all. I can finally watch my dramas on the couch, instead of in front of the CRT and on a 20$ chair.
