I have a 600E 2645 -3AU with CDROM drive but without a floppy drive, Is there a way to upgrade the BIOS using the CDROM only?

Can I copy the system files of a bootable diskette together with the system program service diskette(file), spsdib54.exe into a CDROM and boot the 600E from CDROM? I do not want to buy a Floppy drive just for upgrading the BIOS!

A quick search would have found a number of threads on this topic, but this specific thread will most likely be the most helpful.

Hi,

Info for My IBM 600E 2645 3 AU , 300MHz PII are as follows:
Existing BIOS info obtained at 'Easy Setup' are:
model/submodel rev. : FC/01/00
Post/BIOS version: 1.21
setup version:1.09
Slave controller version: 1.08

Followed suggestions from members of this forum, after I extracted the following files from the IBM ' spsdib54.exe' and added them to a boot CDR created using Nero.

$0045000.fl1
$0045000.fl2
flash2.exe
prod.dat
updtflsh.exe
updtrom.exe
userint.exe
utilinfo.exe

I inserted this CDR into my 600E, it booted up from CDROM(I do not have FDD) correctly and displayed DOS prompt: D:>
I typed flash2.exe /u from DOS prompt and return, the message I got is:

" Please wait .....
This machine is not supported.
The progress ended. "

Does it mean that the BIOS for IBM600E 2645 3AU is not upgradable?? could not believe it!! Or I should choose a lower BIOS version?? Assistance from expert members please.

Thanks
