600e won't start

#1 Post by Daveyk » Sun May 16, 2004 4:35 pm

This is a funny thing. I have been using the 600e for a couple of years with no problems. Now, the other day, the orange light that signifies charging wouldn’t blink and the machine wouldn’t start. I know I have a very dead battery but the machine has been running fine with it for some time. The weirdest thing, and one that gives me hope, I hope, is that I plugged it in and for a few seconds it blinked orange then started to start up then went dead. Any ideas for me? I would be so grateful if you do. Is this a CMOS battery issue maybe?

Regards,

Dave

Dave,

Sorry to hear it. My 600X exhibited the same behavior when my Li-On battery bombed out. Will the 600E boot without the battery in place? Try running off of the AC cord only and see where that gets you.

If okay, then you truly need a new battery.

You may want to pull out all extra RAM, CD, DVD, batteries, etc when booting just to make sure nothing else went bad.

CMOS battery could be trouble, but I am not sure if a dead one would prevent booting.

Let us know what happens next.
