I've been trying to get the battery maximiser. I'm using the software installer. It seems to download ok and the installer says it's installed but I can't find it anywhere and when I try to open it from the lenovo site it says it can't find it. I'm using windows xp and the thinkpad is a 600x.

Help appreciated.

Thanks.

A fair guess is that the program was designed for Windows 9x. Also: Have you tried upgrading your BIOS?

I expect that the utility has installed correctly and everything is working as it should.

From the Battery MaxiMiser and Power Management features for Windows - ThinkPad General [emphasis added]:
Summary of supported programs, machines, and operating systems

ThinkPad Power Property
Supported on all machines
Not supported on Windows NT 4.0

Battery MaxiMiser program
Not supported on ThinkPad 5xx, 6xx, 7xx, i-1157
Not supported on Windows 95/NT 4.0

Battery Information program
Not supported on ThinkPad 5xx, 6xx, 7xx, i-1157
Supported on all operating systems

Fuel-Gauge program
Supported only on ThinkPad 5xx, 6xx, 7xx, i-1157
Not supported on Windows 98/98SE/Me/2000/XP ACPI system
So, all you get with a 600X running XP (or any ACPI system) is the ThinkPad-specific tabs added to the Power applet in the Control Panel. No Battery Maximizer or Battery Info. And the Fuel Gauge is replaced by the standard battery info icon that is built-in to Windows XP.

If you have a 600X with SpeedStep, then you might consider installing Christian Diefer's SpeedSwitch XP applet, as it contains a better battery system tray info icon than the built-in XP tray info icon: it can be set to display the total number of minutes remaining without requiring you to hover your mouse over it to see the number. And in that case, I would recommend customizing your system tray to "hide always" the built-in battery icon, or you can sometimes end up with two battery icons displaying at once.
