Question about MIDI on a 760, =/

Is there any way to use the Microsoft software sound tables on a 760ED instead of the MWAVE's audio generation chip?

It sounds' particularily horrible to me and I'd rather have the software doing the work than the MWAVE, (All high pitched pinging noises and muffled beeps)

However although the MS wavetable is listed on dxdiag it is not listed on the menu of MIDI playback devices in the multimedia part of the control panel in Win98. - All that is listed is the MWAVE and an external midi device.

Thankyou very much in advance :)

I've never found a way to make the 760ED use the MS synth but I do remember, at one point, loading a 3rd party software synth on a 760ED and getting better MIDI results.

If you can track down the mWave "Midi Samples" package for the mWave card and get that installed, that should fix the midi quality issue.

Well so far I've had no luck tracking down Mwave samples, just a bunch of dead links and crappy adverts.
Can you point me in the direction of the sample set you installed? :D

I just stumbled on this thread; I hope it's not too late. I've used Wingroove (do a search) to replace the beep-boop FM synthesis on a 760EL. It gives acceptable results, under both Win95 and Win98SE. One warning, though - if you don't register it, the nagging will make you crazy.
