RAM discrepancy?

Greetings All.

I'm running a 600e 2645-550 with 192Mb RAM and XP Home. Everything is running very well indeed ... so to relieve boredom I removed the RAM cover to see what was installed.
I've got;
1) 64Mb PC66Mz SDRAM
2) 128Mb PC88Mz SODIMM
I'm no expert in these matters ... is this configuartion ok?
Would the whole plot run quicker with 2 x 128Mb PC100 RAM?
Should I leave well alone?

the 600e runs at 66mhz, so 100 or even 133mhz wouldn't change a thing.

So best thing I can do is remove the 64Mb stick, slide in 128Mb then leave it alone?

You can tweak the machine to run at 100MHz (or even 110?). Some 600e require just a BIOS hack, others need a soldering iron and a calm hand and mind

To acomplish that he will need also a PIII processor.

If you are asking about whether this machine supports the Dual Channel mode, the answer is no, it doesn't.

Isn't there 32MB of RAM onboard? So, the total memory is actually 224MB, not 192MB. Also, despite what the official documentation says, the 600E can take two low-density 256MB PC100 sticks (e.g. part number 33L3069 or 33L3070) to max out at 544MB, not just 288MB. I would remove the 64MB stick and replace it with a 256MB one, and Win XP Home will speed up noticeably.

In answer to the last post ... during the boot sequence it says 196032 kb, and on the front page of the Control Panel>System>General page it says 192Mb of RAM.
I have seen the 128Mb and 64Mb sticks of RAM, but I know nothing about there being 32Mb on board, could this be faulty?
I will certainly look into the 2 x 256Mb scenario as this could make a huge difference, thanks for that.
Oh ... and being a novice, I have absolutely no idea what Dual Channel mode means

Here's the procedure to enable or disable the 600E's 32MBs of onboard memory:

Boot up Thinkpad.
F1 to enter BIOS.
Select Config.
Press Ctrl-D to open BIOS editor.

Byte 2B.

Default is 80.

Change to 81 to disable onboard 32MB memory.

If you take a look then you may find that the onboard 32MBs has been disabled.
It might not be a wise move to re-enable it if that's the case - unless you know why it was disabled in the first place.
