Red X on test, System Board.

F1 on boot, tests are all ok except for the first one, red X on System Board

Dev 001

Err 91

Fru 3610

Does this mean the System Board will need replacing.

Searched here and the web but can't find the codes, not even on IBM pages, just beep codes and a list with error codes starting 110.

Any pointers please.

It's a 600E 198 memory 10GB HD running XP Home. Apart from the battery not charging it runs really well, quite a nippy little machine really.

Basically from a quick reading of the thread, it's saying your battery is dead.

Thanks, really appreciate that, been sitting here searching all over for hours, could recite Thinkpad error codes whilst asleep now.

Will try the test with battery out.

Yes, Ray is right. Remove the battery and test the system again and you will most likely not have that error again.

worked, no errors. Thanks, i had searched but didn't come cross that, thanks.

There's a problem with the machine though, the reason i did the test in the first place.

Is it best to start a new thread on blank screen on boot, only happens sometimes though. Thought it may help if i posted a boot log.

We were given a few IBM laptops, older ones, to use for a community help group, a couple of the machines have problems and somehow i seem to be the one who's ended up with the task of trying to correct them.

Searching here for info and starting a couple of threads has helped enormously, two are working perfectly, no problems now.

Taken months but very satisfying when they are up and running without problems

If the problem does not relate to the original subject of this thread, and does not appear to be recently covered, then yes, it's probably better to start a new thread describing the problem you are having.
