battery not charging

The battery in our 600x thinkpad won't fully charge. It started out at around 45% and wouldn't go higher. (We got the laptop used). The yellow charge light would go on for a few minutes and then go off again.

I tried discharging the battery down to 4%. Now it only charges to 11% before the green light comes on.

Would appreciate help.

Thanks.

From what you are saying the battery is the source of the problem, get a new or used in good condition off ebay or check this thread:

If I take out the battery and then put it back in, it charges for about 30 seconds and then stops. If I keep doing that, the charge goes up. (It takes about 3 times for it to go up by 1%). Would this still seem to be a bad battery?

If it doesn't respond to a deep cycle, then it is a bad battery; regardless of how much total charge it can hold while being charged in 30 second intervals. That usually indicates that the charging logic circuit in the battery is toast. :)
