Hi,
I turned my 770, on after nearly a year and its completely dead, it won't charge or work from ac.
I purchased a new battery and it charges, but upon power on all I get is fan noise.
I replaced the bios battery in the memory compartment, still nothing.
I've tried holding the F1 key, but absolutely nothing.
I need some advice, as to where to look next ?
Thanks
Andy

You say you hear fan noise...when you turn it on,what does it do...do you hear the after post beep???...could it be the comp is working, but the inverter is dead for the LCD(common)...if that is the case, you should be able to see it very faintly, may have to use a flashlight...or hook up external monitor.......if you are getting absolutely nothing, try removing everything...memory,hdd,cd..etc...then boot...OR....it could be the little tab that gets depressed when the LCD is closed,is stuck down...check that out,its right beside the icon LED on the keyboard...
Can you see hdd activity on the icon LED's???
Later...

Thanks for responding Greg,
I hear a minor speaker blip, as I push the on slider, then I hear the fan spin up, I see the LCD display various icons, which extinguish, leaving just a percentage and a battery icon. I can here the fan spin up and down and up again, but then nothing more, I don't see anything on the screen or via a connected vga screen, I don't here any hdd activity, or cd.
I have removed all memory, hdd and cd etc. no change.
I have checked the little tab by the lcd, and it appears extended, and when depressed the machine stops.
I don't see any hdd activity, and I have several hdd's to try, which I believe all work, but the 770 exhibits the same behaviour with all hdds.
I have checked the 2025 for voltage, which is showing 2.9v
Again thanks for the help.

Andy,
Strip the machine of all memory, drives, etc. and then attempt to start the machine directly into EZSetup. (Press and hold the F1 key down while turning on the unit, release after the MEMCOUNT completes and you hear the POST beep.)
Are you sure the CMOS battery is installed correctly?
Regards,
James

Hi James,
Machine stripped of all memory, hdd and cdrom, I can confirm that the CR2025 appears only to be able to be installed one-way, ie + visible.
Still nothing, holding the F1 and turning on, just the blip from the speakers and fan startup, nothing on screen or via vga, I give up holding down the F1, after about two minutes, the screen is still blank, so I turn off.
Am I sure the CR2025 is installed correctly, if it isn't installed at all, the machine doesn't do anything, with the CR2025 installed I get the behaviour described above.
Thanks
Andy

Sorry to resurrect a dead thread, but did you ever fix this problem? I have exactly the same thing going on. Thanks.
