compactFlash as primary HD? - transnote

#1 Post by boon » Wed Nov 01, 2006 4:48 pm

I thought if that would be possible to use compact flash as a primary hardrive. If I buy like a 2gb CF and install windows 2k in there, serving the memory just like a hard drive?

I heard you can use CF as a hardrive in desktop so wonder if thats possible for laptop as well.

I don't know if anyone is currently doing this with the Transnote, but apparently there are folks doing this with some of the 600 series machines. The configuration is not always simple, however. For e.g., see the thread, TP Geniuses! How to manually set HDD parameters on TP600?.

It should be do-able, but I've never heard of anyone attempting it. Would be an interesting project...

Oh, that's what you meant! I thought you wanted to run an OS from a card in the CF slot, not replace the hard drive with one. I've ordered one of the devices you've linked to myself, to replace the drive in my 701C.

Here's the problem I see with using one in a Transnote: the t-note has no drive caddy, so getting the assembly into the drive slot over the pc card area would be tricky. I think you'd have to attach it to some sort of plate about the size of a standard 2.5" drive to get it in and out. Other than that, it should work.
