Does 770z's video card support hardware acceleration?

IBM's website claims that the Trident 9397DVD supports 3D acceleration, but I have tried several games and they all lock up when I use hardware acceleration (either OpenGL or D3D) in them (Quake 2, Unreal Tournament, and Baldur's Gate 2). They work fine when using software acceleration, however.
I have installed the drivers from the IBM website, and I am running Windows 98SE.
Am I missing anything? Trident's website doesn't even mention having ever produced any graphics hardware, let alone have drivers for download.
P.S. BTW, thanks to the information found on this forum (especially from pkiff), I have managed to upgrade the processor on my 770z to a Pentium III 500Mhz and the system works perfectly. So yeah, thanks y'all.
