All 600Es not the same?

Older ThinkPads.. from the 600, the 7xx, the iSeries, 300, 500, the Transnote and, of course, the 701

All 600Es not the same?

#1 Post by Davemci » Wed Nov 22, 2006 5:50 pm

I have a 600E with a bad motherboard and so I bought a base unit off eBay. Was I surprised to find the 2645-51U came with a MMC-1 processor. I thought all the 600Es used MMC-2 CPUs. Bummer!

600E NOT THE SAME

#2 Post by RRHODY » Wed Nov 22, 2006 6:58 pm

If my memory is correct, the 2645-51U is a plain vannila 600 not the 600E. Therefore, the MB is different.

All 600e's and x's do use MMC-2 CPU's. The 600's all use MMC-1 CPU's..
1 T23 1.13 Mhz.SXGA+..512 RAM..Built in Wireless
1 T23 1.13 Mhz..256 RAM...
1 600e that now a 600x(500Mhz) with 256 RAM
1 600x(500 Mhz) with 327 Ram
1 600x upgraded to 600Mhz with 256 RAM

The seller must have swapped the top cover with a 600E since the sticker says 600E then went to all the trouble of replacing the screw cover. I didn't know the model number until it arrived, but could clearly see the 600E on the keyboard cover. So, all 600Es are MMC-2. Thanks for clearing that up.

For the record, not all 600Es are the same.

2645-55x,A5x models have a different BIOS and are more sensitive to upgrades. (ie. ram and CPU)

Fortunately, it was advertised as a 266MHz PII TP600. Had it been advertised as a 500MHz PIII TP600X, I would have been very upset!
