TN whines when Huawei e620 datacard inserted

#1 Post by kmg » Fri Nov 24, 2006 6:03 pm

Transnote with w2ksp4

Drivers are installed by
Vodafone Mobile Connect Dashboard software
previous to card being inserted.

When the card is inserted,
it begins loading the various drivers,
but hangs and emits a "you're hurting me" tone.

If the card is removed,
the system sometimes recovers, but not always.

I've been through Voda support,
and they've contacted huawei,
but they've essentially given up
and documented a mysterious hardware incompatibility situation.

An Option umts card works fine, so the slot's generally OK.

Hauwei firmware is latest.

Was told on transnote.us forum that
a Novatel card will work,
but Vodafone Ireland only deal in the Hauwei
or a new Hauwei usb 'modem'
(which I suspect is usb2 only).
I'd like to get this one working if possible.

How might I determine exactly what's happening,
or has someone had a similar experience
(with a solution!)

Thanks.

I don't know what's happening, but I've seen similar with one of my Transnotes. I use a Verizon Wireless Broadband pc card and it will not work in one of my t-notes. It is definitely hardware, because the card works fine on one machine, even if I swap drives between the two. I don't get any sort of audio feedback in my case - just bluescreens and lock-ups. No diagnostic I've run indicates that there is anything different about the problem t-note, and it has no problems with any other hardware.
