Thinkpad 600E Default display problems

#1 Post by Itdealers » Tue May 18, 2004 3:58 am

Hello,

I have a problem with a IBM Thinkpad 600E Laptop.

Whenever you switch it on, it always defaults to the external monitor port.

In order to switch the LCD screen on, you have to press Function-F7.

There is do docking station or external monitor connected to this laptop.

I downloaded the PS2 software from the IBM website and ran the following command:-

PS2 SCReen LCD

The softwrae acknowledged this change, but upon reboot it again
defaults to the external monitor.

Can anyone offer any advice?

Thank you.

Kind regards

Paul Durkin

Sounds like the LCD inverter card is flaky or dying. There's no immediate danger of failure if you don't mind the Fn-7 at boot.

I've seen this with a 770 starting over a year ago. That machine is still going strong.

On a 770 I had with a dying inverter,it would just shut the screen down,if you looked close you could see it...

If i'm not mistaken, there is a spot in the BIOS to enable external or internal monitor,or both...hold F1 at startup.....or in the configuration utility there is a spot for "Only" monitors

Hope this Helps!!!

600E Default Display

One other thing to check is the little feeler arm that senses whether the cover is shut. If this feeler arm is jammed down the system could think the cover is closed when it isn't and default to external monitor.

Also make sure that you have not selected external monitor for the startup in Easy Setup.

Hope this helps.

This has happened to me on the A21p. But in that case no amount of Fn-7 would get the main display back.
