700C Hinge Problem

#1 Post by gkaucher » Mon Sep 06, 2004 8:38 pm

The hinges on my 700C are too tight, and the plastic parts around the left hinge have cracked. I read somewhere that part number 85G8199 would solve this problem. How do I find a source for that part, or does anybody have any other suggestions on how to fix this?

Well, IBM's price for this hinge kit (85G8199) is $40 something. Just enter the part number here. But I don't think you want to spend that much. You can also call Stuart at indexcomputer.com for a price quote (954) 321-7885 x109. He might get it cheaper. Or look around on Ebay, and buy a used 700C.

700C Hinge Problem

I'll probably try to get a used 700C for parts, since it looks like I'll need them. In the meantime, I applied a thorough coat of 2 part epoxy on all the broken plastic parts around the hinge, and it seems to have strengthened things up considerably. I also put a little light oil near the hinges.
