Got a new to me 600e from ebay. Windows 98.
Screen resolution wants to revert to 400x680
sometimes it will stay at 600x800 but I want 1024x768 or is that impossible. What display adapter and monitor do I want, Even when I get screen resolution to mid range when I open ie6 view is very low resolution looks like its in safe mode. I think I need a new driver but what do I need and where do I get it, Also USB will not work is that because I dont have 98 SE just 98. thanks for the help

For the display issue, try this...

As for the USB, you might need to update drivers for that one as well...here is the entire driver matrix.

Yep, you should get 98SE instead, plus the drivers for the USB devices.

Better, if you have a copy of Windows 2000, it should resolve all of your problems.

Display and USB will be installed during the installation. No need to do anything.

well, if we're talking OS here: have you tried *nix?
pogo runs debian 3.1, 1024x768 sure as you're born
and USB...and PCMCIA...and sound...and...

Oh yeah, definitely! I should have said "you should get at least 98SE". And in case the OP doesn't know, despite the 600E's age it can run XP pretty well, provided it has enough memory.

Go back to the second post in this thread, the one by tfflivemb2, and the first link he listed is for the video driver that you will need.

You need to download this driver from the flash drive manufacturer's web site. What's the brand and model number?

I just went to Imation.com which says you do need drivers for Win98SE. Go to http://www.imation.com/products/flash_d ... loads.html to download the appropriate one.

Thanks all

Hi,

If you want to watch DVDs, then you must install, for example, PowerDVD.

When you install it, it will copy the codecs on you machine. Then, you can uninstall it, the codecs will stay ! ;)

If you use Windows Media Player 9 or more recent, then you can install an addon an modify the Registry to use it.

I explain that on my site (in french, but I'm sure you will understand) :

You might want to look on eBay for a Margi card for DVD playback. I didn't find DVD playback very good even though I had a 400MHZ cpu.

No problem for My 600E w/ PII 366 MHz, 288 MB RAM and XPSP2...

If it's choppy, you can lower the screen colors, to 16 bits , instead of 24 bits. ;)
