Batteryless BIOs Upgrade on 570

Hi all;

Thought I'd share my experience in upgrading the BIOs on a TP 570 (2644-3AU). I got this one cheap from a doorman here in New York. Battery is dead, so no normal upgrade to BIOs is possible, but the machine is in practically mint condition so worth saving for something!

Looked over the forums here and on the internet, found this solution that worked like a charm.

Make a Win98 boot disk (From Bootdisk.com). (Make sure that Hide protected operating system files (Recommended) is deselected at TOOLS/FOLDER OPTIONS/VIEW in order to be able to see AUTOEXEC.BAT, CONFIG.SYS and HIMEM.SYS)

Remove the following files from that disk:

himem.sys
config.sys
autoexec.bat
scandisk.exe
scanreg.exe
fdisk.exe

Make BIOs upgrade disk from Lenovo Web Site. Current version is 1.16. Copy the files to a work area on your hard drive.

Rename the following files:
$0039000.fl1 rename to-----> bios.rom
$0039000.fl3 rename to-----> platform.bin

NOTE: Only .fl files 1 and 3 are used. Copy the following files to the Win98 boot floppy that you made in the step above.

bios.rom
platform.bin
phlash.exe

Boot from this disk, run PHLASH.EXE and wait for your new BIOs!

Once upgrade is complete, restart. Enter BIOs Utility by pressing F1 at ThinkPad Screen, and select "Load Defaults" from the menu at the bottom of the screen. Press F10 to save configuration changes.

Upgrade is finished.
