IBM Thinkpad 600 2645-45U

Connected to power supply and turned it on and alll I get is the orange light that I think meand cpu activity and the fan blows constantly, nothing else, no display or anything.

This machine has no ram (besides the built-in 32mb) no optical drive, no hdd, battery etc.

What I have tried:
-changed cmos battery
-connected to external display, nothing
-added 64mb ram chip, same thing
-took it apart and looked for anything out of the ordinary, nothing, also re-seated the cpu while I was in there and I have no luck still.

Suggestions? Bad mobo, should I just strip the keyboard and lcd(only things that are worth anything) test them and throw the rest in the dump?

If you reseated the CPU and it still doesn't work, then you are most likely looking at a toasted system board...but have no fear...they are pretty cheap on eBay...or even better, throw in a 600E system board... :D

Did you try flipping the hard drive over? This happened to me one time on a 2645-4AU. I thought the system board was ruined, but it turned out all that was wrong was that the hard drive was upside down in the socket.

The hard drive is under the left front corner of the machine -- turn it over and use a coin to unscrew and remove the bolt that holds the hard drive in.

I know where the hard drive is, the thing is, there is no hard drive in the machine :?

From my own experience:
* Try double checking that the CPU is really inserted properly. Give it an extra push.
* Check if the switch that's supposed to sense the lid is damaged. Mine was, and that caused my screen to stay black. If that's really the problem, you should be able to press fn+F7 once or twice to get output to an external screen.
