TP 390X won't boot

#1 Post by Mardikas » Thu Sep 09, 2004 12:41 pm

After switching it on there will be IBM Thinkpad Press F1 for ... screen. And tht's it, it goes no further. Pressing F1 will not open bios. It seems like after some time standing still it tries to access floppy drive frequently but inserting boot floppy wont change a thing. I removed battery, memory, combo drive unit, hdd, modem card, disconnected cmos battery for a while then put it back and also memory but after switching on it will stay into that screen. No beeps anything. CMOS battery is around 2,8 volts ( i dont have digital tester at home :(

Any ideas? please.

I've had a few failures like that & I basically had to trouble shoot to find the problem. I purchased an adapter ($7.00) which allowed me to hook my laptop Harddrive to my ide port on my desktop, which formatted fine from my desktop. Than I checked my RAM out on someone else's laptop. Turned out to be faulty RAM.

Problem is basically solved. It was faulty keyboard. Looks like one of the buttons is ctivated all the time. With external keyboard everything works fine.
Thanks for you reply.
