PCI Network Controller
PCI Network Controller
I suddenly started getting messages from my 770Z,
searching for new drivers for PCI Network Controller.
I'm unable to find them on the CD.
What the heack is W98 looking for?
I'm attempting to use mhy DWL-650 D-Link AirPlus network card.
thanks,
Gene

It sounds like it's looking for drivers for your AirPlus card. Have you tried cancelling the search and then installing the AirPlus drivers? Did you have the AirPlus card working previously on this machine?

It sounds like Windows is looking for the drivers for the D-Link card. In order to properly use that particular wireless card, you need to install the drivers from the D-Link CD (or website) BEFORE you even plug in the card. :
http://support.dlink.com/default.asp?orig=1
However, there is a slight problem with the DWL-650 card: it was available in several different models, each of which, requires their own driver (install) program. Search the D-Link site for that card and you should find four, maybe five pictures showing you the H/W or F/W version number on the label on the back of the card. You then need to download and install the driver. Follow the install instructions exactly. I believe it's, install drivers, DO NOT choose to automatically reboot, shutdown the system, plug in the wireless card and then power back up.
How do I know all of this? I've had V.P1, V.M1 and H/W:L1 cards and it was hard keeping track which systems have the proper drivers loaded. I eliminated all of the V.M1 cards and now mostly have V.P1 cards and only two L1 versions.
