770e cant install OS on new hard drive??

#1 Post by rufunky » Tue Jan 16, 2007 1:45 pm

I am trying to install the OS on a new hard drive of a 770e and I can't seem to get the computer to boot from a win 98 boot floppy or a bootable cd rom.Just get the following errors:

I9990301: Hard disk
error.

I9990302: Invalid hard
disk boot record.

I9990305: No bootable
device.

I also haven't managed to get into the bios yet to see if its possible to change the boot sequence. What key/keys allow bios access ?? I thought it was F1... :?

Yes, you're right. You have to press AND HOLD the F1 key after you push the power-on switch on the laptop. Normally, I wait until I see the IBM logo and the memory post before pressing the F1. Try that and see if you can get in.

On a 770*, press and hold F1 BEFORE you turn the power on to ensure getting into EZSetup.

You can change the boot order there.

Thanks guys.. Thats exactly it, you have to hold F1 while powering on. Anyway, now the OS installed fine but when I go to reboot I get

" a disk read error occurred press CTRL + ALT + DEL to restart "

Any suggestions?? :(

Hello,

You'll find diagnostic programs here :

http://www.aideonline.com/pages/faq-Ver ... r-398.html

Just download the one you need to verify your HDD.

Yes, but the programs are in english. ;)

You must install the tool you need on a floppy and then boot your laptop with it.
