Common 570 setups

#1 Post by Cheesemanx » Thu Jan 18, 2007 10:04 am

Hey Guys and Gals

ED has just recieved a new little sister "Sara". She is a Thinkpad 570 model 2644-1AU. She has a 333 Mhz PII, 64 meg ram, a 12 gig HD, and the ultrabase.

I have been trying to plan a few upgrades for her. If you have any ideas let me know.

Thanks all.

I would upgrade the RAM and Hard Drive and see if you can get it to run XP. 570's also had a PII 366MHz cpu, see if you can upgrade to that. For something really fun, find a working 570E with a bad display and swap the motherboard. Then you will have a 500Mhz PIII system.
I have finally rejoined the dark side.

Despite what the official documents say, you can actually put in a 256MB low-density PC100 module to bring the total memory to 320MB. With 333MHz PII and 320MB RAM, you can definitely run WinXP fairly well even with a 4200rpm HDD. If you upgrade to a faster HDD, that would be even better.

I like the idea of uping the RAM I have already located a 256MB stick from a friend for $40. Will a DVD Rom and a margi card make it so when I am docked in the media slice I can watch DVDs on it?
