I have a Ibm Thinkpad 760XL (P 166 MHz,81 mb ram, 2.1 gb hd,21x CD rom)
My problem started like this:
One day i thought my computer started to get slow so I runned one of Windows own utillity called Defrag. I let it run for a while but then i realized that it would take to much time. So i cancelled the program and shutdown my computer. Next day when I started my computer I couldnt come out to WIndows. So i went to DOS and typed format C: . After formating i couldnt reach the CDROM drive (for installing Win 98 SE). I tried to change the boot priority but it didnt work (maybe because there isnt something called cdrom device there). So now when i start the computer i get the message:

"Invalid system disk, I/O diskerror
Replace the disk, and then press any key"

What shell i do?

If you simply formated C: as you stated you'll need to format again with system installed. You'll type 'format C:/s' to do that and you'll need your boot disk in the floppy drive to transfer the system files. You should have a file named 'mscdex.exe' on that boot floppy that you'll need to copy to your hard drive. That allows the CD Rom drive to be recognized in DOS. I've always had an autoexec and config file present before loading Windows but I've done it without them being present so I know it's not manditory. You obviously have access to the internet, run a search for a freeware called 'ultimate boot disc'. It will set you up for a Windows install very easily.
