I just did a Google search for any thinkpad model with error code 187. There does not seem to be any one listed. I did check error codes close to that number in hopes that I can find what it might mean. I think there is something wrong with the motherboard on the system. It must not be able to complete POST. It could be the RAM, but those errors are in the 2xx range. It could be something as simple as a loose jumper pin in the computer, so something that would result in a replacement motherboard. Is there another number besides 187 that could identify more clearly the problem. If you have 301 anywhere, its a keyboard error and I think 187 might be used there, but not sure. Strange, but hopefully someone can figure this out.

A simple search at the
IBM/Lenovoweb site for:
+troubleshooting +numeric +error +codes +thinkpad
finds this page at the top of the list:
Numeric error codes - ThinkPad General
0187 EAIA data access error. The access to EEPROM has failed.
This type of failure generally means that the system board needs to be replaced.
