Didn't feel comfortable posting this until I had won, but now that I have, I will:

Just scored a MMC-1 PII-400 (PMF40002001AA) for my 600 on eBay. Got it for $43 + $8 postage/handling (USPS 1st class).

Now I have a question or two:

1. I've been searching here, but am uncertain as to whether the PII-400 uses a 100MHz front-side bus, or remains at 66MHz like my current 300MHz processor. I've seen several sources out on the net that indicate that it's still a 66MHz bus, but I can't help but remember somewhere on here (but couldn't find it) that I read about it being 100MHz. Even if the bus is the same, it's still a 33% increase in processor power over my stock processor, but I'd still like to know. Anyone remember which it is?

2. A thread I started some months back about using low-density 256MB SODIMMs on my 600 indicated that I needed 66MHz units because of the CL2/CL3 parameter. Does this change if the answer to (1) is 100MHz?

My guess is the PII-400Mhz runs at 66Mhz FSB. My 600E has a 400MHz PII MMC-2 chip and runs at that bus speed. I know the desktop PII-400MHz chips ran at 100MHz FSB. Hope this helps.

Rob Mayercik,

The MMC-1 PII-400 FSB is 66mhz only the MMC-2 PIII has a 100mhz FSB.

No, none of the laptop Pentium II chips had 100mhz front side bus, they all run on a 66mhz bus. Only the Pentium III had a 100mhz front side bus.

Ok, guess I was mixing up different posts in my head.

Thanks for clearing that up.

Now all I need is for it to arrive (in transit as of Friday).
