Slow/No wireless i1400 2611-412

I received the above from a coworker. Celeron 366, 256mb ram. I formatted the drive, and installed Win98 SE. Loaded all the drivers, etc. I can connect to the internet using a Linksys,(or any hard-wired) pccard nic. When I try wi-fi, (Belkin f5d7010), I get a connection from the Thinkpad to my router (D-Link DI-524, latest firmware), but limited connection to the internet. I have disabled all security settings, (WEP, MAC filters, re-enabled SSID broadcast). I tried a different wireless pccard, a Linksis, the same situation. I took the Thinkpad on the road, and could connect to other wireless networks, but again, limited internet, even on open networks such as the local coffee house.
I have another desktop pc running Win98 SE connected to my home network, and all settings in network configurations are identical.
In desparation, I loaded XP Home on the Thinkpad(that took forever). Again, I can connect with a hard wire to the router, but not wireless. XP could see the connections, but limited connectivity. I again reloaded Win98 SE, and the kids use it in the kitchen, but I'd really like to go wireless.
Thanks for reading this rather long post, but I have scoured the net, and this site looking for any clues.

First of all, congratulations on an excellent, solid little machine.

I would like to know more about detail about your issue.

You are connecting using a PCMCIA card, more specifically a linksys.

I know this is a slow process and forgive me if you have already got the correct drivers, but in trouble shooting, that is step A.

I use a USB Wireless Card by netgear to connect to the internet, I have a t21 with a win98 partition and it worked right away with no errors with my wireless. There should not be any security issues with 98 and connecting.

Do you have a firewall installed? Try installing Sygate Personal firewall, this will at least bring something up when you are trying to connect.

Keep me posted

Drivers for the wireless Belkin, and wireless Linksys all had updated drivers. The Linksys wired card, pcm200, works flawlessly. With wireless, the laptap correctly obtains an IP from the router, I can see the router, but get "limited connectivity" to the internet. I am heading out this afternoon, and will try a USB network adapter.
thanks,

I know that Microsoft does not continue with there support for updates with 98 but the other day in my 98 I went to the update site and low and behold, all the updates to 2002 were there, so I updated my 98.

I dont know if this helps, but before I even thought about my wire USB I installed all the security updates.

Oh yes, I had this wireless problem on a PC once, I downloaded and ran a program called winsockfix, type this into google and go to the first link to download it (I just tried it).

This is the first choice in fixing the problem.

Let me know how it goes.

I was able to get all the updates to Win98. The wired net, linksys got me there. This is too much to get upset over. The kids love to play on the computer in the kitchen.
thanks to everyone
