won't power on without battery

#1 Post by mmthomas » Wed Apr 28, 2004 11:51 am

600e has stopped showing indicator for operating on ac power. Battery is always showing 100%(actually operating on ac), but when I take battery out the indicator switches to ac power.

TP will not power on with battery removed.

Battery lasts about 90 minutes of operation when AC adapter is disconnected.

Lithium battery is keeping time of day correctly when all power sources are removed.

Ideas?

1. Go to Easy Setup and test the system board.

- If there are some errors, probably the power management on the system board is not working properly.

- If NOT, the battery controller is not working properly and is giving misleading information to windows.

2. It's good to test if windows PM driver is working correctly, search in google for 'apm monitor' this is small program that is displaying the APM status, but in most cases the windows is showing correct the batt status.

power on

I recall that the laptop would power on before without the battery inserted. (but I am not sure) I don't see how a bad battery could affect the poweron if it is not inserted.

Does the laptop normally require a battery inserted to power on?

Selftest does not give any errors.

It shouldn't. All the TPs I've ever used have powered on fine from AC, with or without a battery installed.
