Feedback on 133>166Mhz on 760

Hi

Have read a few threads on tackling the upgrade of certain components on 760's. I have a good working 760ED maxed out and a spare 166Mhz chip from an XD. They look same footprint, are they a straight swap??

I have taken these machines appart many times so not bothered about the task, but don't want to bugger my good second machine in process...!

Many thanks for any help

Yes, the 166MMX is totally compatible with the 760ED. However, since the 760ED has no cooling fan, you might want to monitor the heat on that thing for the first few days the chip is installed.

Cheers for the confirmation... Have you done this too?? What happens ifi it gets too hot?

Also is it worth the trouble? Is there any marked improvement in performance? The standard 133 is not MMX so that could be useful...

Thanks, very tempted now!

The only downside is you get an absolutley huge heat output, which is generally speaking not too bad however I wouldn't reccoment using the laptop for more than 3 hours with a 166 installed.
